About ME
From Baltimore to College Park

My name is Tyler Barron and I've taken a long journey to reach where I am today. I grew up constantly on the move, living in Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Illinois. I eventually found my way back to Maryland in 7th grade, and have called it home ever since. Moving all around God's green earth has given me a great perspective on many different cultures, which I use regularly in my schoolwork, social life, and professional life.
I went to Gonzaga College High School, a Jesuit school situated in the heart of Washington DC, only a couple of blocks from the Capitol building. Gonzaga's unique location provided plenty of opportunities to volunteer and help the less fortunate (our school motto was "Men For Others"). I loved going to an all-boys school and made many lifelong friends there. At Gonzaga, I was a captain on the track team and vice president of our debate team. In track, my main event was the hurdles, however, I also ran everything from the 100 meter dash up to the 1000 meter run. Participating in Debate helped me come out of my shell while also improving my public speaking skills.
I am a Marketing and Information Systems double major, which can be a major struggle. That being said, I love that I get to engage both my logical and my artistic talents each day, in ways that challenge how I've thought my whole life. Strategic Design Fellows has impacted me by introducing me to the world of design. I always assumed I wasn't a creative person because I wasn't artistic. However, my freshman year I took a course titled "How do Innovators Think?" that showed me that creativity is like a muscle that can be grown through practice. This insight has led me to Strategic Design Fellows which opened up a whole new world of career options.
I work at the Diamondback as the Advertising Operations Manager. This has been an amazing opportunity to work on my leadership skills and has become a passion of mine. I've improved my attention to detail and worked on my communication skills. Despite the long hours and often stressful weekends I cherish being able to leave my impact on the UMD community.
I'm a huuuuuge Redskins fan #HTTR, and I co-host a weekly radio show with my best friend since middle school that focuses on the Redskins and Ravens. The show is called Last Take with Tyler and Brian and can be found at the link on the bottom of this page if you're interested in hearing an episode. We go live every Tuesday from 10pm-11pm, if you're ever inclined to listen. I love creating content for the show every week and finding statistics about the Redskins that I never would have seen without the show.
I'm a hard worker (I'm actually graduating a semester early in Fall 2019) who loves to relax. This may seem paradoxical but you're just as likely to find me studying in McKeldin Library as you are to find me walking around Lake Artemesia. I'm constantly seeking balance between my social life, professional life, and school life. I believe that balance is the key to a happy, fulfilling life and it's something I emphasize in my work.
